EARLY ACCLAIM FOR AN ANGEL WITH FUR:

5.0 out of 5 stars. Beautiful, gut wrenching, tear jerking,9 Oct 2011

This story touched me so deeply you wouldn’t believe possible. I laughed so hard and cried so much, it was as if Lobo was my very own dog. It oozes with unconditional love; any animal lover will thoroughly enjoy this story. Even those that don’t consider themselves as animal people; I find it hard to believed that they wouldn’t be touched by this. Whilst reading it I related to a similar experience I once had with one of my own pets, all of the same emotions shining beneath the writing so brightly. The writer has told this story in what I’d consider a very moving and powerful way, and I will be suggesting to every reader I know to give this a go. Sure to not disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Emotional Roller Coaster,October 7, 2011

An Angel With Fur is one of the best books I’ve read in years. What makes that amazing is that it’s the non-fiction story about a man and his dog. That isn’t the sort of thing I’d normally have expected to have me alternating between laughing out loud and bawling my eyes out, or feeling on the edge of my seat from suspense about. All I can say is that this is an amazing story told in a nearly miraculous way by a writer at the top of his game. It’s a book I know I’ll go back to and re-read at some point, and probably more than once. I can’t see anyone who owns a pet, or has ever lost someone they love, not being affected by this book. It’s really that good. I’m recommending it to everyone I know.

Inevitably any book about animals is going to be nostalgic, funny and sad.     Animals grab our hearts and don’t let go.

For those who have read Russell Blake’s fiction, you will be very surprised. This is fact and tells us as much about Blake as about his dogs. I don’t want to be a spoiler, but I suggest you don’t read this on the train or anywhere with people around. It would be embarrassing if you burst into tears in public!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Told Story,October 6, 2011

What a surprise this marvelous book was. I’m a big fan of Blake’s fiction novels, but the idea of a book about his dog seemed like a stretch. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is an absolutely beautifully-told story of Lobo, from his puppyhood to his adult years, and it is as filled with surprises and wonder as any book I’ve ever read like it; the most notable of which was Marley and Me. If you liked that book you will love this. I could go on for hours about the high points. Even after reading it in one day, all I have been thinking about since I finished it was Lobo’s story. To say it affected me would be to trivialize how moved I was by this timeless account. Blake’s thrillers are about as good as they get, but this book is in a class by itself and should be required reading for pet lovers everywhere..

5.0 out of 5 stars Bittersweet rites of passage story of a man and his dog,October 6, 2011
My nephew bought me the story for my birthday (I have a new kindle too!) and I couldn’t stop reading this powerful story until I had finished it. The honesty is what struck me most – the author is certainly an animal lover, saving dogs from an awful fate and even donating some of the profit from his story to a refuge in Mexico. Lobo is such a wonderful dog and though his story brings tears to the eyes in places it also gives you a warm glow when you read about his antics and courage. Good luck to the author in his endeavours to save those poor dogs – I’ll be sending your book to a few friends this christmas. Oh and Lobo is such a handsome fellow! Best wishes – Carol.

This a story of a most compassionate human being’s love for one particular animal in his charge. Lobo, and extraordinary beast with a heart, not normally seen in ones lifetime. Blake, a gifted wordsmith, does Lobo proud, in this memorial of his short but love filled life. Sunk as soon as he saw him and recalling the roller coaster ride of Lobo’s companionship, must have made it hard for him to write. Still raw in his memory and pouring it onto the pages must have brought tears to his eyes at times.
Now Lobo truly is an angel with fur, he’ll be wagging his tail as he watches you look after the others that still share your life, knowing he’ll never be forgotten and always be grateful you picked each other at the shelter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and heart wrenching!,October 5, 2011

Russell Blake shows how versatile and talented he is with his new novel, An Angel With Fur. While it has his signature comedic writing, it’s also very heart wrenching as you learn the story of Russell’s amazing dog, Lobo. I laughed until I cried, and then I cried, I was so moved by the story. Blake does an amazing job of showing the reader the amazing grace of uncondtional love and unconditional acceptance. Don’t read it without a box of kleenex, because even the hardest hearted jerk will be moved.
