Right on schedule for the American election, comes a tome packed with essentials on how to expatriat to Mexico, and what destinations I find the most appealing.
It turned out quite a bit larger than I had originally envisioned, but I wanted to flesh out many of the sections so they would anticipate likely follow-on questions arising from the information presented.
Whether you have toyed with the idea of retiring in paradise, but never felt you had sufficient info to make an informed choice, or are just curious about what life south of the border could be like, this books was written with you in mind. In it I present eight of the locales I consider ideal, for different reasons, although all have in common safety, affordability, weather, infrastructure, health care, and general quality of life.
I hope you find it as interesting as I found writing it to be.
Available at all booksellers, and in paperback within 48 hours or so.
Here’s the Amazon link.
I pre-ordered the book, received it late last night. I immediately started reading it, and even though I’m only at the 15% mark, I’m already blown away.
My wife and I just returned from a week’s vacation in Cabo (specifically, the San Jose’ part). We absolutely loved it and now plan on making the move. I started my writing not too long ago, but now I’m able to pursue it seriously since I finally retired from the Army.
Russell, I really appreciate the Jet series, and now that you’ve come out with this book, I love ya even more (no homo). 🙂
Perhaps we may even bump into each other down in Cabo one day.
So glad you’re enjoying it. If you’d be so kind to leave a review when you’re done, I’d be grateful. And yes, you never know who you’ll meet front row at the Office on the beach…
Done! It is an outstanding book and a must-have for anyone considering moving (or even visiting) Mexico.
Thanks for the kind words, and tell a friend! Obviously I am a big believer in the lifestyle and value to be had by picking a good location in Mexico as a home base. So far so good! As I say in the book, I have places in Cabo, Zapopan, Colima, and the pacific coast of baja north of Cabo, so obviously I put my money where my mouth is.
From Dirty Deeds to The Easter Bunny to Robert Obrien to Russell Blake there has never been a dull moment. Congrats. – Bob
Hell of a ride, that’s for sure!
What a valuable read, thank you! Finished it quickly and now need to re-read and take notes. Just ordered ‘This Ol Casa’ and am excited to comb through that, too. Perfect preparation for our future build in Zacatitos. Salud!
I have a building company in Cabo, if you are considering construction companies. You should contact me at Buildcabo.com if that’s the case.
Russell, thanks for the book about Mexico. I’m and American deciding whether to move to Cabo San Lucas or Puerto Vallarta. I notice that you don’t recommend Puerto Vallarta as a place to retire in your book–how come?
Thank you!
Too pricey for what you get, too hot and muggy during the summer, and too many tourists. You will pay 30-40% more than you might somewhere like Colima, which is 30 miles from the coast, to be in a tourist town right on it. PV isn’t a good value for that reason, and is certainly no secret.
Russell, speaking of Mexico, I would like to know if my favorite series (The Assassin) is really over.
Do you have any plans to continue?
I’m reading the penultimate book and I’m already sad to have to read the last one …
Question: Thank you for the book re: several places in Mexico worthy to move. Question: is Colima still safe in 2022 ?
After a few months of cartels shooting each others’ street dealers in the sketchy areas of town, that little tussle has been resolved and the city is once again quite safe. In truth it always was if you weren’t dealing meth or a member of the cartel. Think of it as “how impacted was Beverly Hills or Westwood by all the gang violence in South Central LA back in the 90’s?” Or “how impacted is Lakeshore in Chicago by all the homicides in South Chicago?” The answer is not at all.
I loved your book. I am curious to know who your dentist is in Cabo. I am seeking a pain-free dentist. Thank you.
I use Doctor Nino at Winning Smiles on the road at the base of Pedregal mountain. He’s great and has all the latest tech.
